Being a mom is the hardest yet most rewarding job I have ever had.

I always dreamed of being a mom and thank God for blessing me with my heart’s desire. However, that doesn’t mean that it is all sunshine and rainbows (especially right now as we experience terrible 2’s).

It is so easy to get discouraged or caught in the trap of playing the comparison game. When I get in a place of discouragement and feeling like a failure, one of the first places I turn to is scripture.

A big reason I started my blog was to be an encouragement to other moms and show them God’s grace in motherhood.

So, here is a list of Bible verses to encourage moms that I cling to as my encouragement in motherhood. I hope they encourage you as well!

Bible Verses to Encourage Moms on Worry

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.

Proverbs 31:25 ESV

I love Proverbs 31 as a whole because it is a guide for what a Godly woman looks like. However, I love how in this verse it shows her carefree outlook on the future. She laughs at what’s to come because she realizes God is in control regardless and there is no need for her to worry about tomorrow and forget to live today.

For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

Isaiah 41:13 ESV

How many times have you felt helpless in motherhood? I know it is far too many for me to count. But, you know what, I don’t have to stress about my failures because God will help me and he is the same yesterday, today and forever. I can count on Him to show up every single day!

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

Psalm 28:7 ESV

Some days I just need all the help I can get. I quickly try to do things in my own strength and forget that God is my strength and my helper. It is such a relief that it isn’t all on me and that I can rely on God to get me through. I don’t have to worry about it all because He’s got it!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Philippians 4:6

I never struggled with overwhelming anxiety and fear until I had kids. This verse gets me through those moments of mom fear and reminds me to turn to God in all things. It also has helped show me to be thankful even during the tough times.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:27

My word of the year this year was peace and this is my verse of the year. I love the promise of perfect peace that this verse offers. It has been a crazy year with a lot of stress and isolation. However, through it all I can honestly say God has given me peace. God’s peace is so much better than the fears of this world.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4 ESV

The more I talk to moms the more it seems that fear is a common feeling. I do not believe God intended for me to live in anxiety and fear. I have clung to this verse and sought God to deliver me from my fears.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;

I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 ESV

These words are life to me in those mom failure moments. These are promises I savor and eat up to refresh my soul and encourage my heart. He will give me the strength to get through it and He will be there the whole way. 

Bible Verses to Encourage Moms to Love

 We love because he first loved us.

1 John 4:19 ESV

This is a verse I look to when I need to be reminded to love my husband and children during difficult times. I don’t love because it’s easy, I love because He first loved me. When I need to love a toddler in the unlovable moments this is the verse that comes to mind and encourages me that my love is an overflowing product of the love of God

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make Me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Psalm 143:8 ESV

I don’t know about you but I need a daily dose of God’s steadfast love! I try and wake up early every day of the week to spend time in God’s Word and be reminded of His promises. Mornings are a great time to get me in the right mindset for the day and give me a soul lift daily.

Bible Verses to Encourage Moms about Their Children

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.

Psalm 127:3-4 ESV

Have you seen the movie Like Arrows? It is a wonderful movie centered around this verse and the idea of raising little arrows or disciples. This verse encourages me that my motherhood is a ministry in and of itself for my children and their spiritual upbringing.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

3 John 1:4 ESV

As a Momma who loves Jesus, it my heart’s desire for my children to come to accept Christ as their savior. I want them to love God whole heartedly. I have started praying this over my children as an encouragement to my heart and promise to cling to. It is my desire that they walk in truth.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Philippians 4:8

What is my life saying to my children? I want them to see whatever is right, pure, lovely and admirable coming from me. This verse is a challenge for me to live my life oozing Jesus so much that it overflows to my children.

Bible Verses to Encourage Moms on Beauty

Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Proverbs 31:30

As women it is so easy to get caught up in the comparison game, especially with our looks. This verse is a reminder that at the end of the day I am not called to appear perfect. I am called to love God first and foremost.

but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

1 Peter 3:4 ESV

As I get older, I am starting to see and feel some signs that I am not as young as I once was (I’m still very young I know). This verse gives me hope to cling to the unfading beauty and to nurture that beauty rather than the outer beauty.

Bible Verses to Encourage Moms in Daily Life

As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you;

Isaiah 66:13

I just love this verse! It just gives me so much rest and assurance. I know that I am a flawed human who fails a lot. But I also know I would do ANYTHING to comfort my babies. So, this is the perfect reminder that, 

  1. I need comfort too and it’s good for my soul
  2. God who is perfect does such a better job at comforting than I do.

Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:24 ESV

This verse has changed my perspective on how I do things and see my motherhood. I now see motherhood as a ministry that I am serving unto the Lord in. It has given me life and purpose! I serve the Lord through my daily Momma tasks.

 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

On the days that I feel like I have failed and that I am a bad mom this is the verse! God’s grace is new every day and He is made perfect in my weakness. Because in my weakness I realize how I can’t do it on my own and  that I need a perfect savior. I love that he is so gracious with us and loves us unconditionally. 

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Psalm 73:26 ESV

Do you have a favorite verse? I’m sure you do, most people do. This is my favorite verse of the Bible! It just gives me so much encouragement to know that no matter my failures that God is still there for me to be my strength and to fill my heart. 

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 17:22 ESV

With the state of the world right now it has been so easy to be pulled into a dark and dismal place. I have had to make it a point to focus on the joyful times. I want to keep my heart healthy and that comes from being joyful rather than being crushed. 

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Colossians 3:23 ESV

Housework and the tasks of motherhood can weigh me down and seem so mundane. I struggled for a while to see the purpose in the ministry of motherhood but God revealed to me that whatever I do can be used for Him. I am working on seeing the mundane as little ways to praise God for he is.

Spending Time In God’s Word

I have come to realize, more and more as a mom, that spending time in God’s word is essential for me. When I take time to focus on God’s word my heart is happier and my soul is joyful.

Does this mean there won’t be rough days?

No. I would be kidding myself if I thought it would all be sunshine and rainbows. But, it does make it easier for me to handle to rough days when I have my focus on Jesus.

I have been making it a point to turn to these verse for encouragement and to spend time in the mornings with Him.
